His bronze sculptures fall into three categories: western, wildlife and historical. He has been greatly influenced by his father, Boyd K. Packer, as well as Lance Turner, and by U. Grant Speed. He has been the designer at the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum on the BYU Campus since 1983.

August 24
Jay Bryant Ward
At a young age, Jay’s illustration work gained him an Honored Student Award for his entrepreneurial efforts and three national art awards for his paintings and illustrations all before leaving High School. Ward attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University graduating with a BFA emphasis in illustration. Ward has also been fortunate to receive instruction from the world-renowned painter, Richard Schmid.

August 31
Ruth Hewlett Buckmiller

Ruth studied under many professional artists and received awards for painting both in watercolor and oil painting. She also studied at BYU and received a BA in Fine Arts and an Associate Degree in Graphic Arts at SLCC. She has worked and painted with Linda Curly Christensen on the LDS Temple murals, 10 to date, including Draper Utah and Oqhirrh Mountain Temples. Of art, she says, "For as long as I can remember I have made art. Most good art has at its base an abstract structure of shape and value.  I look for that and sometimes I like to stop painting just at that basic under structure of shape and value. Other times I try to make a conceptual version of shape and color and leave it for individual interpretation. It is like hearing and developing a symphony."
