This lesson on Faith is the first in an 8-part FHE series featuring the Young Women's values. Get the other 7 lessons here.

Song: “Faith” (Children's Songbook, no. 96)

Focus: Value Experience #3

Color meaning: The color white represents purity—think of fresh, unsoiled snow or clean, white temple clothing.

Lesson:

Watch the Bible video about Jesus healing the woman of faith, or read it in Mark 5:22–34

The color of the value Faith is white and symbolizes purity. After watching the video or reading the story, ask family members to define purity. Then ask them what they think it means to have pure faith. Were there any examples of “pure faith” in the video?

Explain that the woman had pure faith that if she could touch hem of the Savior’s garment that she would be healed. In other words, she believed this without any doubt. The woman was made physically pure because of her faith. How can we become spiritually pure through our faith?

Have someone read the following quote from Joseph B. Wirthlin: “Faith is not so much something we believe; faith is something we live.”

Explain that faith does not just mean to believe. It also means to act. The woman in the story did not expect to be healed simply by believing she could be healed. She put her faith into action by believing that the Lord could heal her and then going to the Lord.

Have some read the entry on faith in the Bible Dictionary or the section titled “Increasing Your Faith” on page 55 in True to the Faith.

Ask family members to share examples of a time they put their faith into action. Have everyone write down one principle such as prayer or tithing that they can work to increase their “pure faith” about.

*For those completing the value experience, give another family home evening lesson about how faith helped you live the principle you picked. And don’t forget to record your feelings about faith in your Personal Progress journal!
