Does the phrase “All are alike unto God” stir something inside you? Do you enjoy expressing thoughts and emotions through art? If so, you may consider submitting your interpretation of those words to the 12th International Art Competition.

The competition is sponsored by the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year’s theme comes from 2 Nephi 26:33:

[The Lord] doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.

Previous themes include “Meditations on Belief,” “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus,” and “Arise and Shine Forth.” Pictures of previous exhibits can be found at history.ChurchofJesusChrist.org

According to the website, the purpose of the competition is threefold:

  1. Encourage the creation of quality art by Latter-day Saints.
  2. Showcase the breadth and diversity of Latter-day Saint cultural production made manifest through various styles, techniques, media, and voices.
  3. Develop the Church History Museum art collection through purchase awards.

Artists who wish to participate have plenty of time to create an original piece. Digital images of completed artwork should be submitted through the museum’s online submission tool between February 1–June 1, 2021. Selected artwork is expected to be on exhibition at the Church History Library from March–October 2022.
The competition “welcomes a variety of cultural and aesthetic traditions, styles, and artistic media.” Find more details about the entry rules at history.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
