‘Marriage guarantee’ makes it easy to end housing contract

The Branbury’s marriage guarantee is making it easier to get out of a housing contract when tenants get married.

“This is our second year doing this guarantee,” said Loren Arb, Branbury apartment complex manager. “It was really successful last year and there are only a few stipulations.”

Those stipulations include signing a full-year contract, forfeiting a security deposit, staying in the lease at least six months and, according to the form signed upon moving in, applicants must have “no immediate marriage prospects.”

Which, according to Arb, can be defined as “a fiance or someone who you think is going to propose to you tomorrow.”
