In a new video, Elder Anthony D. Perkins, president of the Middle East/North Africa Area of the Church, expressed his gratitude for Muslims’ example of devotion as Ramadan concludes this year. His message is as follows:

“It is truly an honor to send our greetings and best wishes as you mark Eid Al Fitr, the end of the fasting of Ramadan. To all our Muslim friends throughout the world, we express our gratitude. Fasting is something we believe in, as you do, and believe that it brings us closer to God.

“Each day during Ramadan, you have chosen to let God prevail in your life. You have fasted each day and honored each call to prayer. You have gathered with family and deepened your relationships. Forgoing food and water each day, you know what it feels like to be hungry and needy, and your hearts have turned to the poor who are so often hungry and needy. You have given generously and have taught your children to be charitable to all. And so we say thank you, because across the globe throughout this time, millions of followers of Islam are doing the same. Your good example has strengthened my faith. Your collective devotion has made the world a better place. We wish you a blessed Eid.”

Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long fast from dawn to sunset observed by Muslims. A religious holiday that usually takes place over one to three days, Eid al-Fitr is a time for special prayers, family visits, exchanging gifts, and charity.

According to Newsroom, Elder Perkins’s greeting, released on May 12, was made in response to an invitation from His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Al-Issa, secretary-general of the Muslim World League. Many global faith and government also leaders sent similar messages of love to Muslims for their observance of Ramadan for the Eid al-Fitr celebration.
