10 Wonderful Promised Blessings If We Magnify our Callings

The direction to magnify our callings can be an ambiguous, demanding one to follow. In a talk he gave in 2006, President Thomas S. Monson defined magnifying our callings as the following:

“To magnify is to honor, to exalt and glorify, and cause to be held in greater esteem or respect. It also means to increase the importance of, to enlarge and make greater. “The Prophet Joseph Smith was once asked, ‘Brother Joseph, you frequently urge that we magnify our callings. What does this mean?’ He is said to have replied, ‘To magnify a calling is to hold it up in dignity and importance, that the light of heaven may shine through one’s performance to the gaze of other men.’”

While sometimes difficult, we know we are blessed when we do what the Lord asks. Here are 10 specific ways that the Lord has promised to bless us if we magnify our callings:

1. Heavenly Father will help us fulfill our callings.

An Ensign article titled "Whom the Lord Calls He Qualifies" states:

"The Lord will help us in our callings, especially when we feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities. When we pray to Heavenly Father for guidance, He will direct us through inspiration and will bless us to serve well. The Lord helps those who serve Him and will add His power to their efforts (see D&C 84:88). As President Thomas S. Monson promised, 'When we are on the Lord’s errand, we are entitled to the Lord’s help. Remember that whom the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies.'"

2. We will have increased opportunities and angels will prepare our way.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, in his 2017 talk "A Yearning for Home," said:

"Those who love and serve God and fellowmen and humbly and actively participate in His work will see wondrous things happen in their lives and in the lives of those they love. "Doors that seemed shut will open. "Angels will go before them and prepare the way. "No matter your position in your community or in the Church, God will use you, if you are willing. He will magnify your righteous desires and turn the compassionate actions you sow into a bountiful harvest of goodness."

3. We will experience spiritual growth.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, in his 2008 talk "Lift Where You Stand," said:

"No calling is beneath us. Every calling provides an opportunity to serve and to grow. The Lord organized the Church in a way that offers each member an opportunity for service, which, in turn, leads to personal spiritual growth. Whatever your calling, I urge you to see it as an opportunity not only to strengthen and bless others but also to become what Heavenly Father wants you to become. . . . "But sometimes we do not hear the rest of what the Lord is telling us. 'Although you are worthy to serve in this position,' He may say, 'this is not my calling for you. It is my desire instead that you lift where you stand.' God knows what is best for us."

4. We will be found clean at the last day.

Jacob 1:19 reads:

"And we did magnify our office unto the Lord, taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people upon our own heads if we did not teach them the word of God with all diligence; wherefore, by laboring with our might their blood might not come upon our garments; otherwise their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day. "

5. We will be sanctified by the Spirit.

D&C 84:33 reads:

"For whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two priesthoods of which I have spoken, and the magnifying their calling, are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies."

6. We will inherit eternal life.

Colossians 3:22-24 reads:

"Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; "Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

7. Our needs will be taken care of.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 reads:

"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:"

8. We will have magnified priesthood power in our lives.

President Gordon B. Hinckley, in his 1989 conference address "Magnify Your Calling," said:

"Each of us is responsible for the welfare and the growth and development of others. We do not live only unto ourselves. If we are to magnify our callings, we cannot live only unto ourselves. As we serve with diligence, as we teach with faith and testimony, as we lift and strengthen and build convictions of righteousness in those whose lives we touch, we magnify our priesthood. To live only unto ourselves, on the other hand, to serve grudgingly, to give less than our best effort to our duty, diminishes our priesthood just as looking through the wrong lenses of binoculars reduces the image and makes more distant the object."

9. We will be given the opportunity to help those beyond the veil.

Then-Elder Henry B. Eyring, in his 2002 General Conference talk "Rise to Your Call," stated:

"Your call has eternal consequences for others and for you. In the world to come, thousands may call your name blessed, even more than the people you serve here. They will be the ancestors and the descendants of those who chose eternal life because of something you said or did, or even what you were."

10. We will have the Holy Ghost with us.

In the same talk, Then-Elder Eyring said:

"The Lord will magnify what you say and what you do in the eyes of the people you serve. He will send the Holy Ghost to manifest to them that what you spoke was true. What you say and do will carry hope and give direction to people far beyond your natural abilities and your own understanding. That miracle has been a mark of the Lord’s Church in every dispensation. It is so much a part of your call that you may begin to take it for granted."
