5 New Christmas Must-haves

Looking for a way to focus your family more on Christ this Christmas? How about some new music or an uplifting video to get you in a joyful mood? You’ll find those and more in the LDS Living Staff’s top five must-have holiday items from Deseret Book this year:

1 – Biblical Names of Christ Ornament Set

13217

We think these beautiful new set of antique pewter-finish ornaments are the perfect way to invite the true spirit of Christmas into your home this holiday season. The 12-stars each feature a different name of Christ, reminding us of the many sacred roles of the Savior. One great idea that we love for these ornaments is to use them as part of a family Christmas lesson on the names of Christ.

2 – Home for the Holidays

13215

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s annual Christmas concert never fails to bring us a warm and fuzzy holiday feeling. This year’s release of the 2012 concert highlights the talents of internationally acclaimed TV personality Tom Brokaw and Tony Award-winning Les Miserables tenor Alfie Boe with a special guest appearance by the renowned “Candy Bomber,” Gail “Hal” Halvorsen.

3 – Deck the Halls CD

13214

Not only do we love the music on this CD, we also love the opportunity it provides for a little Christmas giving. Containing contributions from familiar artists such as Cherie Call, VoiceMale, Jenny Oaks Baker, and Hilary Weeks, proceeds from the sale of this CD benefit The Road Home homeless shelter.

4  – Christmas for a Dollar DVD

13216

We are sure this touching story will put the whole family in the Christmas spirit. Inspired by true events, it follows the experience of the Kamp family’s holiday during the Great Depression. Though his wife is dead and his young son Norman is struggling with polio, William Kamp pulls together one full dollar to be used only for Christmas gifts. As family members think of special, inexpensive gifts for each other, a Christmas spirit of love and service prevails despite their poverty. Check out the trailer here:

5 – Piano Guys: A Family Christmas CD

Popular piano and cello duo Johns Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson will help you keep that holiday spirit with their newest CD. Featuring variations on popular Christmas classics as well as two original compositions, there are also two bonus songs. Additionally, it comes with either a piano or cello tree ornament for the music lovers in your family. We will definitely be listening to this one all season long and think that you will be too!
