6 Vital Steps that Helped Me Heal After Returning Home Early from My Mission

How often I hear members say, “The Lord protects His missionaries.” And it’s true. He does watch out for us. Significantly less 18 to 26-year-old young adults die on a mission than if living as “regular” young adults.

And yet, why do some missionaries have to come home early? Why are some missionaries not “healed” during their missions? These questions pulled on my heart for a long time after my return from the mission.

In 2009, I was called to the Hungary Budapest Mission. I was absolutely ecstatic. My parents had both served missions and I grew up listening to their stories of preaching the gospel, walking ’til their calves ached, and the time a little boy peed on my mom’s head from the second story of a home. I was thrilled and could not wait to have a growing experience like theirs for the next year and a half!

As I neared the end of my MTC stay, for the first time in my life, my health acted up.
