The news media give us pictures and words of people who seem to control world events. But in the long run, it is God's hand that presides. His hand is a quiet one -- hardly interesting to the average reporter.
For example, Elder Orson Hyde left Nauvoo in 1840, crossed the Atlantic, traveled through country after country, and at last arrived in Jerusalem in October of 1841. That journey was not considered "newsworthy." Yet, it would change the course of human history. Joseph Smith, head of the last dispensation, had sent this Apostle to dedicate Palestine for the return of the Jews.
Priesthood blessings and dedicatory prayers do things like that. Modest as they are, they invite God to influence the flow of things, to set the forces of heaven in motion.
