BYU basketball: AP names Fredette player of the year

BYU's Jimmer Fredette has captured the Associated Press' national player of the year award.

Fredette led the nation in scoring and guided the Cougars to their first Sweet 16 appearance in 30 years. The senior guard, who received 48 votes from the 65-member national media panel that selects the weekly Top 25 poll, received the award Friday in Houston. The voting was conducted prior to the NCAA Tournament.
