BYU's star Fredette on Mormon rap and playing with inmates

Jimmer Fredette came to the Ford Center on Thursday morning with more weight than anyone from a small town in upstate New York should be expected to carry.

How much does the Mormon religion weigh? Every Mormon basketball fan pointed to Fredette to end Brigham Young's eight-game NCAA Tournament losing streak. Every Florida Gator pointed to his 21.7-point scoring average as the key to keep the streak going.

But as he walked in the gym, he was comforted by the machine- gun-fire lyrics of "Amazing," a rap song his older brother T.J. wrote about him.

Yes, Jimmer Fredette, fueled by Mormon rap.

"It gets me hyped," Fredette said. "It gets me teary-eyed every time I listen to him."
