Ethics of using spirituality in psychological practice

Husband and wife counselors Kraig and Norma Boyd addressed the ethics of using spirituality to help clients at the Friday, April 2, session of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists conference held at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

"Spiritual interventions: Why even go there?" Norma Boyd posed to the gathered group of professionals and students.

She suggested three reason why incorporating the spiritual in counseling is beneficial:

1. It creates a safe environment for believers.

"Many clients hold spiritual beliefs and worry that professionals will not understand or honor their views," Norma Boyd said.
