While presently closed due to COVID-19, and it is unknown when the temple will reopen, the Columbus Ohio Temple will close for refurbishing beginning August 15, 2020.
It is expected to reopen in late 2022.
Details for the public open house and rededication will be provided as the renovation nears completion.
The Columbus temple was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley in September 1999. The temple stands 150 miles south of Kirtland, Ohio, where The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated its first temple in 1836.
Latter-day Saints consider temples as the “house of the Lord,” the most sacred places on earth. Temples differ from meetinghouses where Sabbath worship takes place. Temples are open throughout the week and closed on Sundays.
