Faith sustains LDS following tornado

After a devastating tornado swept away most of Joplin, Mo., resident members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are finding things to be grateful for.

Carmen McIntyre Borup, mother of seven and a resident of Joplin, said she was driving home from a high school graduation ceremony with her son, Christopher, when she heard the sirens going off.

“We came around the corner and I felt the hair standing up on the back of my neck,” Borup said, “and we got over the hill and the rain was just coming down in sheets. We couldn’t see anything.”

Unable to see the road in front of her, Borup said she pulled over onto the grass and, upon her son’s advice, put on her emergency brake. She said her son then offered a prayer for safety.
