Family name indexing in England: 'We have done it!'

It seemed like an impossible task, to index a million names.

Members of the Chorley England Stake were introduced to FamilySearch indexing in 2010 when the Europe Area family history advisers, Malcolm and Linda Beverley, set an objective to index a million names that year. For stakes in the Preston England Temple District, covering approximately half of the United Kingdom, it seemed like mission impossible, but by November 2010 that goal was accomplished. Chorley England Stake contributed 147,000 names to that total, with some 100 members participating.
