General Primary President speaks at BYU devotional

Holding tight to the iron rod brings joy and happiness now and forever, Sister Cheryl C. Lant, Primary general president, said during BYU's devotional held Jan. 12, in the Marriott Center.

Looking to the story of Lehi's vision in chapter 8 of 1st Nephi in the Book of Mormon, Sister Lant gave examples from the scriptures as a guide to better understand one's purpose in life. She spoke of the different meanings and teachings from Lehi's dream, and how individuals can learn from them today.

"Now these images that I have suggested to you today may seem very common," she said. "You have heard them since you were in Primary. But they are basic. They are essential for us to not only know, but to understand. We must clearly understand what they mean for us — how important they are to us, and where we need to go with this understanding.

"In order to help us really understand where we are in relationship to the purpose of our Heavenly Father has laid out for us, may we take a few minutes to consider some questions," Sister Lant said. "Each of us must answer these questions for ourselves and then we will know how we need to adjust our lives."
