Hurricane relief: Efforts continue in New Jersey

On Sept. 9, local priesthood leaders announced the Church had established a "Mormon Helping Hands" command center to support volunteers in New Jersey with equipment and resources required for Hurricane Irene recovery efforts. Over Labor Day weekend, more than 1,000 volunteers from local wards gathered in hard-hit areas of New Jersey, such as Lincoln Park and Paterson, to help their neighbors with cleanup.

More than 600 volunteers were dispatched the weekend of Sept. 9-11 to support clean-up efforts that will continue Sept. 16-18.
