Central America, Guatemala is situated north of the isthmus of Darian and once embraced several hundred miles of territory from north to south. The City of Zarahemla, burned at the crucifixion of the Savior and rebuilt afterwards stood upon this land.

In early LDS church newspaper called the Times and Seasons, several editorial articles were written identifying Guatemala in Central America as the location of the primary American events of the Book of Mormon. The Prophet Joseph Smith was the editor-in-chief of the times and seasons during the publication of these articles.
