It's kind of like the Mormon version of American Idol

It's apparently not too hard to belt out a unique version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

It's not even too difficult to hold out those high notes.

However, it is apparently pretty hard to control the nerves and remember the words.

A number of the 48 semi-finalists at the Conference Center Little Theater auditions cracked under the pressure and asked for do-overs.

That's not to say the talent wasn't abundantly evident in the contest that drew hundreds of entries from hopeful Mormon stars 18 and over.

Vocalists from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Tennessee, New Jersey, South Dakota, Illinois, Oregon ..., young and old, male and female, stepped up to the microphone and attempted a song that has defeated many a seasoned singer.
