LDS high-school wrestler moves up a class to avoid Sunday play (and still makes finals)

Grant LaMont’s faith came first at the Fargodome this week. He still almost won on the wrestling mat, anyway.

The 15-year-old from Mapleton, Utah, chose to bypass his Cadet division at the USA Wrestling Greco-Roman tournament because it began on Sunday. A Mormon, he chose to follow the Sabbath day and exercise it as a day of rest.

“My dad told me it was my decision to make,” LaMont said.

So instead of not competing, he moved up to the older Junior division, which started Monday. He was the unlikeliest of finalists Tuesday afternoon at the Fargodome.
