A dangerous arsonist who set fire to a Mormon church in Essex during a service was allowed to walk free by a bungling health authority after a judge ordered that he be sectioned.
Gary Pammen, 45, started the fire in the entrance of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel in Ilford and then screamed at the congregation cowering inside.
Snaresbrook crown court heard that during the arson attack in August 2008, he shouted: “Mormons are going to hell.”
