Missionaries should know where investigators are, what they need

Today's missionaries are fortunate to be serving in the "era of Preach My Gospel," the current guide to missionary service, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve told elders and sisters gathered at the Provo Missionary Training Center Jan. 11.

Elder Holland spoke without a text to a devotional attended by all the missionaries at the training center. The meeting was held in connection with the 2011 Seminar for New MTC Presidents and Visitors Center Directors.

"Preach My Gospel was born out of the realization," Elder Holland said, "that the missionaries needed to be more well-founded in gospel knowledge, needed more flexibility in what order they taught gospel principles, and needed to combine listening skills with powerful teaching ability. Above all Preach My Gospel was predicated upon greater sensitivity toward and response to the guidance of the Holy Spirit."
