Mormon Musicians Working to Find Their Post-Mission Musical Groove

Jenn Blosil was looking for some musical guidance. As a songwriter in Nashville tore her songs to shreds recently, she felt hopeless.

Blosil returned to Utah from an LDS mission in New York City last month. Before her mission she was one of Provo’s rising musical stars. Now, though, she’s in the murky midst of rediscovering her musical groove. The exchange with her Nashville friend didn’t help.

TAKING A BREAK

Of course, missions still provide musical opportunities — singing in church and service activities — but they rarely resemble the secular music experiences that aspiring musicians like Blosil were accustomed to.
