Mormon church reopens in upstate New York

For the first time in three years, Mormons living in the Massena area don’t have to travel to Potsdam or Malone to attend service, thanks to four missionaries from outside the area who have been working over the past several months to reopen the church in Massena. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was to hold its first service Sunday, led by Elder Philip Huff and assisted by his wife, Kathy, and two other elders, Mitch Hussey and Sam Bybee.

“We would expect around 30 people,” Mr. Huff said Friday afternoon. “We’ll be happy with 30.”
