On May 7, 2019, Josh Jones was shot twice in English class as he attempted to disarm a classmate threatening to open fire.
Now, one year later, he shared with The Denver Post how the experience shaped him.
“The faith I have in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has allowed me to really overcome some of the challenges of being shot at and having that type of security taken away,” Jones told The Denver Post.
Jones recently returned home from his mission in Colombia due to COVID-19. He served for four months there. After he finishes the rest of his mission, he hopes to train as an EMT and then become a physician’s assistant or a registered nurse.
“I’ve really come to the conclusion that, as terrible as it was, it’s helped my life,” Jones said. “It has helped me realize what I wanted to do and how much I want to help people.”
