by | Mar. 31, 2021

Editor's note: This article was updated on April 5, 2021, to include the 20 temples announced in April 2021 general conference.

Since becoming the 17th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January 2018, President Russell M. Nelson has announced temples in every general conference for a total of 69 temples

The Church now has 168 operating temples. Eight of those temples are currently undergoing a major renovation. Additionally, 35 temples are under construction with 48 announced.

On a recent episode of the Church News podcast, Elder David A. Bednar shared that temple construction has not stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Obviously, there were construction disruptions because of the pandemic,” Elder Bednar said. “But relatively few of those temples are behind schedule. And I find that to be just absolutely miraculous. That all over the world, with all of the varied construction circumstances that we’re in, that the construction of the temples has moved forward in such a remarkable way.”

Here’s a look at recent updates of temples under construction or renovation and other temples that have been announced. Renderings and construction updates are included where available.
