Serving in the line of duty: Elder Russell M. Nelson

Korean War

The future apostle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For much of the war, Elder Russell M. Nelson was assigned to Walter Reed Medical Center. He also made a tour of all mobile army surgical hospital (MASH) Units in South Korea during the summer of 1951. In addition, he made recommendations for improved medical care for injured soldiers. His tour of MASH units took him right to the battlefront. He is now a member of the Quorum of the Twelve.
