Sponsored: Visit the Magic of Alaska

In all of life’s activities, most of us fall into one of two categories: those that act and those that watch. It’s hard to imagine someone dreaming being in the stands for a great game or a great show, but to be on the field or in the middle of the activity would be the chance of a lifetime. Are you dreaming of an Alaska Vacation? Surely in this case, you’ll want to be a player and not a spectator. Maybe this would be your first visit, or you could be an annual visitor with a desire for an “off the beaten path” experience.  The devil is always in the details when it comes to pulling the trigger on, what for most people, is a sizable travel and leisure expenditure.  We are all about making your dreams come true without spending top dollar for what might not be your best value. When its time to make the homeward journey, you want to leave Alaska wondering how to make a return trip, and not so worried about what you may have missed.

With a surface area one third the size of its contiguous 48 sister states, Alaska is as diverse as it is expansive.  Add to its size the fact that travel by road is confined to 9 highways for a total somewhere near 1400 miles. That doesn’t give much road access to all of Alaska’s beauty and grandeur. From the dawn of the industrial age, the intrepid American population has considered vacationing largely a driving affair; and as a result; the Alaska road system now hosts nearly 1 million visitors per year.   The point is anything that can be accessed by car, bus or motorhome carries with it the inevitable mass of vehicularly capable humanity.

Guth’s Lodge is a family owned, family friendly facility with 7 double-occupancy guest rooms. The lodge is located on the shores of the Iliamna River just a couple of miles from its confluence with Lake Iliamna,  which is Alaska’s largest freshwater body.  Iliamna is found at the northern end of the Alaska Peninsula, surrounded by National Parkland (Katmai National park to the south and Lake Clark National Park to the north.) Its drainage flows into the Salmon rich waters of Bristol Bay.  The nearest road system is nearly 100 miles distance across Cook Inlet on the Kenai Peninsula, so there aren’t any motorhomes or tent camps in our driveway-it’s just Alaska as it was truly meant to be.

Our principal goal is to give our guests the opportunity for fishing as many species of Alaska’s World Famous game fish as we can find during their stay.  We researched much of Alaska’s vast fishing opportunities to find areas where the fish are plentiful as well as reasonably accessible.  The Iliamna Lake area is arguably one of the best fishing areas in all of Alaska with a plentiful stock of local fish such as Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling and a healthy run of Sockeye and King Salmon.  We’ve located our operation at the north end of the lake where a short, 15-mile stretch of road separates us from Cook Inlet.  A 35-foot ocean going jet boat (The ReelFast) helps us reach the Halibut, Cod, and other deepwater species that have made Cook Inlet world renown.  We also enjoy the bounties of Bristol Bay with our Nushagak Camp located at the confluence of the Nushagak and Iowithla rivers. The Nushagak is known for having one of the largest King Salmon runs in the state as well as impressive Silver Salmon fishing.

Second only to your fishing is our desire to provide you with a safe, and comfortable vacation.  Our lodge, though remote, is equipped with all the comforts of home.  Carpeted floors, indoor plumbing, central heating, full-time electricity, and telephone communications give Guth’s Lodge @ Iliamna River a home-style atmosphere that your entire family will enjoy.  All of the guestrooms of the facility are integrated into one building to allow extra safety in Brown Bear country and double-occupancy rooms each have a private bathroom with plenty of hot water.  Our dedicated staff is committed to making you feel at home with hearty meals served smorgasbord style; warm, cozy living space, as well as clean linen and towels.  Many of our guests have commented on the beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife viewed right out the windows of the lodge, another advantage to being located in the Alaska bush instead of a community or village venue.

We are a full-service guiding operation with equipment for reaching many of the remote fishing waters of South Central Alaska.  To reserve a vacation with us a $1,000.00 deposit is required per person and our standard length of stay is five full days of fishing.  We begin with a new group each Tuesday of the week and end on Sunday from June through October for $4400.00 per person.  The deposit is nonrefundable.  Trips of longer or shorter duration can be made by special arrangement for a $880.00 per person per day rate.  A charter flight from Anchorage or Kenai to the lodge is included in the price of a five or seven-day trip.  Everything except your personal gear, hip or chest waders, and your fishing license (which can be purchased at the lodge) is provided for you.

Feel free to write, call, or e-mail me with your questions or comments.  If you are capable of logging on the Internet, please visit our web site: www.Guthslodge.com or our Facebook page at Guth’s Lodge.  Make your deposits early and avoid travel complications; the winter rates and flight schedules are much better for all the airlines serving Alaska.
