Thoughts on the CT Shooting: God was with them

I need to lament. When atrocities like what happened yesterday at Sandy Hook Elementary take place, I begin to wonder why God didn’t protect those little ones, why He doesn’t protect all of the little ones. I know that He can’t show Himself and risk destroying our need for faith and free agency, but couldn’t He have, just this once, broken His non-interventionist rule and done something small like busted the taillight on the kid’s car, making him get pulled over by the police on the way to the school? Something small that wouldn’t have aroused any suspicion of divine intervention? He created the universe and everything in it, certainly he could have taken out a taillight or flattened a tire.
