Trust turns spotlight on LDS concert music

The newly launched LDS Composers Trust recently showcased a powerhouse lineup of Mormon concert composers and performers, with music ranging from haunting piano works to avant-garde experiential pieces. The series of inaugural concerts were held in Provo and Salt Lake City. "We hear popular and sacred music but not concert music," Glenn Gordon, LDS Composers Trust founder, said at the Salt Lake City concert held at Baldassin Pianos. "Concert music is forgotten or played elsewhere." Highlights of the recent show included soaring soprano Ruth Ellis, who brought majesty and emotion to famed composer Crawford Gates' 1959 lyrical love song, "Eternally," from the musical "Sand in Their Shoes." The song will be featured at the BYU Homecoming Spectacular in October.
