Man sentenced for LDS church arson fire

A Springville man will serve up to five years in prison for starting a fire that destroyed a historic LDS church more than five years ago. Jake Devin Dowhaniuk, 25, was sentenced Thursday in 4th District Court on felony charges of arson and criminal mischief for sparking the July 2006 blaze.

The Springville church, built in 1913, and remodeled in 1998 at a cost of $1.5 million, featured unique architectural elements and included a pipe organ, stained-glass window and a balcony.
