BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake had a special message for missionaries on Tuesday August 31.
“Just wanted to give a quick shout out to all the missionaries serving out there, all over the world, [to] let you know how much of an impact it’s made to our program,” Sitake said in a video on Twitter.
He explained that 86 players on BYU football’s roster have served missions and that together they speak 12 languages. He also said that the team has 25 full-time missionaries serving around the word. Sitake said that a mission is a great opportunity to develop the attributes that the culture of BYU football strives for.
“I just want to let you know that in our culture [of] love and learn, it’s really important to maximize opportunities to love and learn—and that’s serving a mission, serving other people, learning how to love one another. Be great disciples of Christ and learn as much as you can [in] the experiences you get there. Keep growing and learning. Love you guys. Go Cougs!” he said.

The video then moves through seven different missionaries each reciting a line from Doctrine and Covenants four, which is known for describing the work of missionaries.

Many people have responded favorably to Sitake’s message in the comments.
@Cougketeer said, “Just sent this to my son who is serving in the Las Vegas West Mission. He wishes he could be there to support you at the game, but he has other things he needs to be doing.”
And @travisb_jordan said, “I am a BYU football fanatic, but first I am father & disciple of Christ. I have 2 sons who watched every BYU snap with me growing up. They are now serving the Lord—one in Paraguay, the other in Côte d'Ivoire!”
