Elder Brian Lezama Sanchez, age 26, passed away from unknown causes on Wednesday while serving a mission in Bolivia.
According to a statement by Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff, Elder Lezama was from Cajamarca, Peru, and had been serving in the Bolivia La Paz El Alto Mission since August 2017.
"With sadness, we announce the passing of a young missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," Woodruff said in the statement. "He had been receiving medical treatment and was being transferred to another hospital when he passed away. The exact cause of death is undetermined. We express our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones and pray they will be comforted and sustained during this time."
