Mormon Voices: Safely through the storm while trying to outrun a tornado in Oklahoma

Recently, I had the absolutely terrifying experience of attempting to outrun a tornado. I would love to say that this was the first time, but I have lived in Oklahoma for more than 30 years. I am more acquainted with tornadoes than I care to be. That afternoon, I left work early in hopes of making it home before the severe weather arrived. Unfortunately, the storms moved more quickly than I anticipated. My journey had barely begun when I received news that a huge tornado was headed toward my home — and the path of my usual route to get there.

I adjusted my route in hopes of avoiding the tornado, but the storm I was driving through was still fierce. As I cautiously made my way through violent winds, blinding rain and pounding hail, I prayed. I asked my Heavenly Father to protect my loved ones and to guide me safely home. I pleaded with him to help me to hear the still, small voice of the Spirit above the roar of the raging storm.
