Mortgage broker stole $4m in Mormon project scam

A woman who swindled friends, fellow churchgoers and clients out of more than $4 million on the promise of massive returns from an imaginary retirement village dubbed "Mormonville'' has been sentenced to five years and one month in jail. Catherine Anne Thompson, formerly one of Australia's top mortgage brokers, was handed the sentence by Judge Gillian Braddock in Perth's District Court today.

Thompson must serve three years and one month in jail before she'll be eligible for parole and must also pay compensation to her victims.
