Returned Missionary Strives to Keep Perspective on the Football Field

Baker Pritchard spent the past two football seasons in Honolulu, sharing his Mormon faith with anyone willing to listen.

The 6-foot-3, 244-pound defensive lineman knocked on doors, assisted families with household chores and mowed lawns. Once or twice a month, he cleaned ships at Pearl Harbor.

Pritchard found perspective. He realized that football, the chief focus much of his life, doesn't define him. So the BYU transfer isn't fretting over what-ifs as he slogs through Oregon State spring practices. Pritchard, listed at third-string right end on the latest depth chart, just wants to learn the Beavers' complex schemes and return to playing shape.
