Unique Cedar City church slated for demolition

Since 1927 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2nd and 8th Ward building has stood on the corner of 200 West and 200 South, becoming a brick and mortar keeper of memories and harbinger of sacred experiences for thousands in the community.

The building will be razed in February. Until the two wards had to move last spring, the building was the oldest operating church in Cedar City, and it holds a rich legacy of music, containing the only pipe organ in the city– considered the finest organ in the state south of Provo, a floor to ceiling stained glass window in the chapel and a Steinway Grand Piano, one of the finest instruments in the city.
