Watch: ESPN Shares Paralyzed Latter-day Saint's Inspiring Birthday Celebration

Latter-day Saint Cliff Devries is the head diving coach at Rochester Institute of Technology. For nearly a quarter of a century, Devries has been partially paralyzed. Twenty-four years ago, Devries underwent an intensive surgery to remove a 6-inch-long tumor at the base of his brain stem, a procedure that left the right side of his body paralyzed. Yet in 2018, Devries participated in a simple birthday celebration that has been featured on ESPN. As Devries says in the video about this tradition, "From where I came from, it's magical. It's thrilling."

He continues. "When you see my dive, what else can you do? What can you find in yourself? What can you find in others?"

ESPN shared Devries' story in a seven-minute video on YouTube and a three-minute video on Facebook.
