The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square may have postponed their 2020 Heritage Tour, but that isn’t stopping the choir from having an exciting springtime. The choir has recently announced new ensemble names, a new logo, and a new EP album.

New Ensemble Names

In a blog post on May 8, the Tabernacle Choir announced new ensemble names for the bell choir, now called Bells at Temple Square, and the training choir, now called Chorale at Temple Square.

The post explains that these changes will provide name consistency across the Choir organization.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square changed its name from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in October 2018, after President Russell M. Nelson emphasized the importance of using the full name of the Church.

New Logo

On April 23, the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square announced a new logo during a virtual press conference. President Ron Jarrett and Choir director Mack Wilberg shared some of the symbols contained in the new logo like the tabernacle organ pipes, as well as a curved line representing the shape of the iconic Tabernacle building on Temple Square.

“The organ pipes thrust upward so that you can focus all of our music toward bringing people to look to the divine for musical strength and support,” Jarrett said. “The design helps us to point ourselves and expand our media opportunities to being more digital, but yet still hanging onto our past.”

New EP Album

On May 22, 2020, the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will release an EP album, When You Believe: A Night at the Movies, with the following songs from award-winning movies:

  1. "Main on End" from Avengers: Endgame
  2. “I’ll Fly Away” from O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  3. “Eatnemen Vuelie (Song of the Earth)” (musical inspiration for the opening theme of Frozen)
  4. “When You Believe” from The Prince of Egypt
  5. “Duel of the Fates” from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

“The Choir and Orchestra have a longstanding tradition of performing inspirational music from the Broadway stage and the movies,” director Mack Wilberg said in a press release sent to media. “We hope to showcase the power of this music to inspire and to encourage us. The title, When You Believe, captures that concept of building faith and shows why it was fitting for the Choir and Orchestra to record this music. This music can touch our souls in a very unique way. We also hope this recording will open doors to those who have yet to experience the music of the Choir and Orchestra.”
