Attending the temple is one of the greatest ways to find answers to prayers, learn about the gospel, and feel close to the Savior. Nineteen temples have been announced over the past year and members all around the world will enjoy the blessings that will come from these new temples.
In the general women’s session of conference in October, President Russell M. Nelson issued four challenges to members of the Church. One of these challenges was to attend the temple regularly. He added, “Seek to know more, to understand more, to feel more about temples than you ever have before.”
As you follow his counsel and attend the temple on a regular basis, it’s important to learn about the temple and understand that temple worship is an incredible blessing in itself. As you spend time in the house of the Lord, He will bless your life immensely. Here are some of the promised blessings of temple worship written in the scriptures and spoken by prophets and apostles.
1. “The pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God.”
D&C 97:15-16 promises that when you go to the house of the Lord with a pure heart, you will see God. When you’re making an effort to attend the temple regularly, you will feel the Spirit often and see God’s hand in the details of your life.
“And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it; "Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God."
2. You will feel peace.
Serving in the temple allows you to leave worries and distractions behind and feel peace. In President Thomas S. Monson’s April 2015 general conference talk“Blessings of the Temple,” he said:
“As we attend the temple, there can come to us a dimension of spirituality and a feeling of peace which will grasp the true meaning of the words of the Savior when He said: ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. . . . Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’”
3. You will feel God’s power.
You are promised to feel God’s power when you worship in His temple. D&C 109:13 states, “And that all people who shall enter upon the threshold of the Lord’s house may feel thy power, and feel constrained to acknowledge that thou hast sanctified it, and that it is thy house, a place of thy holiness.”
4. You will learn words of wisdom.
D&C 109:14-15 states the incredible promise that you will learn the truths of the gospel when you attend the temple. These verses also promise the fullness of the Holy Ghost.
“And do thou grant, Holy Father, that all those who shall worship in this house may be taught words of wisdom out of the best books, and that they may seek learning even by study, and also by faith, as thou hast said; "And that they may grow up in thee, and receive a fullness of the Holy Ghost, and be organized according to thy laws, and be prepared to obtain every needful thing.”
5. You will have a clear mind.
With everything going on in the world and in your busy life, it can be hard to clear your mind and focus on the Savior. True to the Faith beautifully describes this blessing saying:
“Sometimes you may feel that you cannot think clearly because your mind is so burdened with problems and the many things clamoring for attention. In the temple, the dust of these distractions can settle, the fog and haze can lift, and you can understand things that you have not understood before. You can find new ways to deal with the challenges you face.”
6. You will be blessed in all aspects of your life.
The blessings of temple worship don’t end when you leave and return to your everyday life. You have probably personally experienced this at one point or another, and the promise is incredible. The passage in True to the Faith continues,:
“The Lord will bless you as you attend to the sacred ordinance work in the temple. And the blessings He gives you will not be limited to your time in the temple. He will bless you in all aspects of your life. Your labors in the temple will strengthen you and refine you spiritually.”
7. You will learn to “draw upon His priesthood power."
Men and women are both blessed with the power of the priesthood. In President Nelson’s talk, “Sisters’ Participation in the Gathering of Israel” from the October 2018 women’s session, he said, “More regular time in the temple will allow the Lord to teach you how to draw upon His priesthood power with which you have been endowed in His temple.”
8. The Lord will provide miracles.
President Nelson emphasized the importance of temple attendance in his closing remarks for the October 2018 general conference prior to announcing 12 new temples around the world.
There was a sense of urgency in his voice as he said, “Our need to be in the temple on a regular basis has never been greater. . . . If you have reasonable access to a temple, I urge you to find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord — to be in His holy house — then keep that appointment with exactness and joy.”
He continued, “I promise you that the Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples.” Heavenly Father knows and loves each of us individually and knows exactly what we need. These personal blessings will come as we devote our time and energy to serving Him.
