Bronson Kaufusi baptizes his Green Bay Packers teammate Christian Uphoff

If you play in the NFL, big things tend to happen on Sunday. But this past Sunday, two NFL players shared a significant moment off the field as Bronson Kaufusi, tight end for the Green Bay Packers, baptized his teammate Christian Uphoff, a safety for the Packers.

“One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had,” Kaufusi wrote on Instagram, later adding, “From fishing, to lessons, scripture studies, prayers, blessings, and to him making the decision to follow Christ. I’m so grateful to be a piece of his story and journey. Excited for his future.” Kaufusi is no stranger to sharing the gospel as he served a full-time mission for the Church in the New Zealand Auckland Mission.

Kaufusi hasn’t always played tight end. BYU fans will remember Kaufusi was a dominant defensive end for the Cougars but last year he switched positions in the latest chapter of an NFL career that has not gone as planned.

But recently, the 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers listed Kaufusi when highlighting the relationships that make Green Bay a special place to play.

“Our tight end, Bronson Kaufusi, I love him. One of the happiest guys ever,” Rodgers said. Bronson’s brother Corbin, who plays for the San Francisco 49ers, shared the quote from Rodgers and said “Keep letting your light shine brother.”

Meanwhile, Uphoff was signed by Green Bay as undrafted free agent on May 14, 2021. He played college football for Illinois State from 2017-19.
