Elder Ballard Perfectly Demonstrates How We Can "Think, Feel, and Act" More Like Heavenly Father

Many stepped in to help after Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding tore through Huston, Texas, and surrounding cities, leaving thousands in its destructive wake.

After visiting Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston, Texas, Elder Ballard perfectly describes how we can think, feel, and act more like Heavenly Father by helping others in need.

This past weekend, I visited the Houston, Texas, area.
It was absolutely heartbreaking seeing the devastation and loss caused by Hurricane Harvey. But how heartwarming it was attending worship services in chapels, brimming with hundreds of volunteers dressed in bright yellow T-shirts, ready and willing to serve their affected neighbors in the community.
This is the kind of love the Savior desires us to possess.
On the eve of His Crucifixion, the Savior tells His Apostles:
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you. …
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35).
The love the Savior described is an active love. Watching so many people take part in Houston’s cleanup efforts perfectly illustrates this active love.
It is only when we love God and Christ with all of our hearts, souls, and minds that we are able to share this love with our neighbors through acts of kindess and service—the way that the Savior would love and serve all of us if He were among us today.
When this pure love of Christ—or charity—envelops us, we think, feel, and act more like Heavenly Father and Jesus would think, feel, and act. Our motivation and heartfelt desire are like unto that of the Savior.
