Germany: “Candy Bomber” Honored in Germany Colonel Gail S. Halvorsen, a Mormon, was the “Chocolate Pilot,” “Uncle Wiggly Wings” or better known as the “Candy Bomber” during the Berlin Airlift 65 years ago. He dropped candy attached to handkerchief parachutes from his World War II plane to the German children.
