LDS Climber Relies on Faith to Conquer 248 Mountains

For most people, “Climb Every Mountain” is a popular song from the classic musical "Sound of Music." But for Nile Sorenson of Yorba Linda, California, it’s a way of life.

On Oct. 11, Sorenson completed his “list finish” climb of Cloud’s Rest, a 14-mile summit and the highest climb in Yosemite Valley in California. Cloud’s Rest was Sorenson’s 248th peak of the 248 Sierra Club, Sierra Peaks Section. The 248 most prominent Sierra Nevada peaks range from Lake Tahoe down to Ridge Crest, Lake Isabela and Tehachapi.

Sorenson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attends the Yorba Linda Ward with his wife, Breta, in the Placentia California Stake.
