Steve McGinty
Steve’s education in art ranges from studies at the University of Utah to travels in Russia, Paris, and England. He continues his education through painting and studying with other artists, visiting museums and art shows, and reading art books. Steve admires the spontaneity and light of the Impressionists and the rich values of the old masters. He saw many of these works first hand in Russia and Paris, and has combined the strengths of these two schools to create his own style. He feels that the sounds, smells and atmosphere play an integral role in the true emotion of each painting. He is President of Plein Air Painters of Utah.

Kendall Harris
Ken received a BFA degree in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts degree from Western Oregon University. Ken was an artist at American Greeting’s World Headquarters in Cleveland Ohio for 12 years. He owns and operates a decorative painting business specializing in murals and specialty interior finishes. This work feeds his family but his love for “en plein air” painting feeds his soul. Ken lives in the St. George area with his lovely wife Jan.

J. Kirk Richards
Kirk is becoming increasingly known for his accomplishments as a painter of Judeo-Christian themes. While not all of his paintings are overtly religious, the majority of his themes stem from spiritual ideas and narratives. He continues to work in a surprising variety of styles, but most of his paintings exhibit a love for the human figure, general use of symbolism and metaphor, and an emphasis on lyric composition. His work is found in private collections across the country. He attributes much of his love for the arts to an early emphasis on music in his home. As a teen he turned from music to visual arts.

The award-winning Alta High School touring choir is made up of talented members of the schools five choirs: Madrigals, A Cappella, Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus and Lyrica. Their program will consist of music that represents “our country, our dreams and our faith.” The choir is under the direction of Aimee Frederick-Lunt.

Max P. Mueller presents the story of Jane Manning James in the second of this year’s Men and Women of Faith lectures sponsored by the Church History Library. James was the daughter of a freed slave and a convert to the restored Church. She knew Joseph Smith well in Nauvoo, and she was one of the first pioneers to settle Utah. While she faced many obstacles because she was a woman, an African American, and a Mormon, her faith sustained her in meeting her challenges. Admission is free. First Annual Church International Art Competition for Youth

For several years The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has held a general International Art Competition. This year, the Church invites youth in particular to submit their work to the first-ever competition for youth. The winning pieces will be on display between November 16, 2012, until June 17, 2013. The first round of entries should be submitted electronically and adhere to the rules and requirements. Click here for more info.
