LDS meetinghouse in Calif vandalized; literature burned

A church reported vandalism to its building at 125 Modoc St. Wednesday morning which included the destruction of religious literature, but investigators don't believe it was a hate crime.

"It looks like typical juvenile stuff to me," said Glenn County Sheriff's Sgt. Sean Arlin. He said damage done to the interior and exterior of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been estimated at $600.

Arlin said the vandals broke out a window for entry. The crime was reported by a church employee about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

He said a fire extinguisher was opened at the south end of the church, leaving a red powder throughout the interior and staining the carpet.
