Media personality leaving Houston area for high-level Mormon post

After 35 years in the Houston area - first as an Oilers' Luv Ya Blue-days quarterback and then a longtime KHOU-TV sports director - Giff Nielsen and his wife, Wendy, are heading to Salt Lake City to serve as a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nielsen, 58, will be part of what is called the First Quorum of the Seventy and his job for the next year will be to learn how church headquarters operates and to speak at church conferences around the world.
