In light of the heightened concerns in the area The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement:
“Church leaders are keenly aware of conditions in Kenya and have taken steps to protect the safety of missionaries," said Jessica Moody, church spokeswoman. "There are no missionaries near the Somali border, and the few that were assigned to coastal regions have been moved to other parts of the mission."
