Nauvoo Young Performing Missionaries Don't Let Canceled Summer Service Keep Them from Singing

Each summer, single Latter-day Saints between the ages of 18 and 25 are called to serve in Nauvoo. These missionaries sing, dance, play instruments, and work on set to make sure that visitors to the Illinois town Latter-day Saints once called home have a memorable experience. But this summer there will be no young performing missionaries in Nauvoo due to the recent pandemic. The young performing missionaries who were set to serve in Nauvoo this summer will have the opportunity to serve again in 2021.

But, while their Nauvoo experience may have been delayed, these missionaries couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share their testimony through their musical talents. Teri Green Crockett, who serves with her husband as directors of the Young Performing Missionary program, wrote on Facebook, “Although their mission to Nauvoo has been paused, the testimonies of these young performing missionaries continue to shine bright. Here they gather in a Virtual Choir performance of ‘Invocation,’ a beautiful musical message of Christ and His promise that ‘. . .where two or three are gathered . . . in my name, there am I in the midst of them,’" referring to the scripture Matthew 18:20.

The video emphasizes that "gathering" is not only physical and certainly that has proved to be true during this pandemic. Their music performance has been viewed over 15,000 times since it was posted on Wednesday.
