BYU Students Create Hilarious and Slightly Morbid Pest Control Ad, Take First Place at ANDY Awards

BYU students killed it at the ANDY Awards with their hilarious and slightly morbid "Pests Do Not Mess with the Orkin Man" ad, taking home first place in the student category.

The ad, which mixes the musical whimsy of "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music with the morbid but necessary tasks of exterminating everything from bed bugs to rodents, took the top student prize at the ANDY Awards.

Adweek, a weekly advertising publication, even sent the ad to Orkin's brand agency, The Richards' Group, and received this response:

"We love The Orkin Man, and we love musicals,” said Richards Group creative director David Morring, according to the article. “Congratulations to BYU and the creative team for a very funny and very well-produced video, and for winning the Andy Awards Student Grand Prize. We’re flattered to have our long-time advertising icon considered with the same high regard as Maria von Trapp."
